I’m often asked why I recommend no snacking, yes even a healthy apple! So, I thought you might be interested to read why.
My Slim for Good Programme came about following my long-term dieting battle where I ate healthily including lots of unlimited healthy fruit and vegetables, but I still struggled to get to a steady healthy weight. Then I realised I was not working with my weight loss hormones Leptin, Ghrelin and Insulin. I won’t go into the long explanations here of how these hormones work because what’s important is that our weight is intrinsically linked to them and what they like most is time to balance. So, if we keep snacking they have no time to balance (they like 4-6 hours between meals with no food and minimum of 12 hours between dinner and our first meal of the day). I hadn’t appreciated that my constant snacking on fruit was one of the reasons for my weight challenge and I was also was attracted to fruits higher in fructose such as bananas, grapes, mango, pineapple and apples, and then learned that eating high fructose foods makes us crave more so I constantly craving carbohydrates or a little something sweet after meals. This was also also a light bulb moment for me and one that has changed my life and many of my clients’ lives.
So a short explanation for you and if you want to lose weight, cut out snacking! Also choose low fructose fruit options such as berries and eat at your mealtime and then forget about food for a minimum of 4 hours. You will never look back!
